Extreme-level Challenges, MUKAWA 135 Bike, Raft & Paddle 4 days

This is not a typical tour itinerary; it is a multi-sport odyssey that demands a spirit of adventure, combining mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and wilderness kayaking into one seamless narrative of the Mukawa River. We move with the current, transitioning through changing landscapes, from rugged mountain gorges to the expansive river mouth, immersing ourselves in the raw, elemental beauty of Hokkaido.

The journey ignites at the river’s source near Tomamu. On Day 1, we mount our bikes to shadow the infant river as it gathers strength. The ride is a 50km descent through ancient forests and dramatic geological formations, including the striking Akaiwa Seigankyo Gorge.

On Day 2, the pace quickens as we swap wheels for paddles. We tackle a 15km stretch of whitewater by raft, navigating the river’s energy before settling into a community-style evening where guests participate in preparing a dinner—a moment of true camaraderie.

The final two days are dedicated to the soulful rhythm of kayaking. We embark on a two-day, 30km paddle that leads us toward the coast. This is a true wilderness experience, featuring a night of riverside camping under the stars. We carry our momentum through forested valleys and quiet bends, finally reaching the river mouth where the fresh water meets the sea. This expedition is a celebration of movement, local flavors—from wild venison curry to riverside bento—and the deep satisfaction of completing a continuous line from the mountains to the ocean.

Day2 Rafting

We transition from land to water at Fukuyama. Over 15km of rafting, we feel the river’s power firsthand, stopping for a gourmet bagel lunch on the riverbank. The evening is spent at the Tomiuchi Ikigai Center, where we engage in a “guest-participation” dinner—sharing the craft of making gyoza etc. together as a team.

Day3 Kayaking & Riverside Camp

The kayaking phase begins with an unhurried 15km paddle toward Toyoda Bridge. We enjoy handmade onigiri on the banks, fully immersing ourselves in the river’s pace.
