Discover the charm of Hokkaido in spring, when colorful flowers bloom across the island and the air is filled with the scent of new life.
This journey takes you through the vibrant cities, peaceful countryside, and relaxing onsen resorts that define Japan’s northernmost island.
Your itinerary begins in Sapporo, the cultural heart of Hokkaido. Visit the Sapporo Beer Museum, stroll through Odori Park, and stop by the Ishiya Chocolate Factory, home to the beloved Shiroi Koibito sweets. The Old Government Building and the city’s blooming cherry blossoms set a perfect tone for your spring journey.
Travel north to Asahikawa, a calm inland city surrounded by nature. In May, the canola flower fields of Takikawa glow in brilliant yellow, while Asahiyama Park showcases cherry blossoms at their best.
The next day is a celebration of color and fragrance. Visit Kamiyubetsu Tulip Park, where endless rows of tulips create a rainbow-like carpet, and Takinoue Park, famous for its vivid pink moss. These two gardens represent the essence of Hokkaido’s spring beauty.
Continue your floral journey through Furano and Biei, renowned for their rolling hills and picturesque scenery. Admire the tranquil Blue Pond, taste lavender ice cream at a local factory, and stop by Farm Tomita, where the fields begin to awaken for summer bloom.
Head to Otaru, a romantic port town known for its charming Canal Street, Kitaichi Glassworks, and Music Box Museum. Then drive past Yoichi’s fruit farms and the majestic Mt. Yotei, often called the “Mt. Fuji of Hokkaido,” before reaching Noboribetsu, one of Japan’s most famous hot spring resorts.
Here, soak in the healing waters of the onsen and visit Hell Valley (Jigokudani), the dramatic volcanic landscape that supplies Noboribetsu’s natural hot springs.
Your journey concludes with a relaxing drive to New Chitose Airport, where you can enjoy last-minute shopping at the airport or nearby outlet mall.

Itinerary:
Arrive at New Chitose Airport and transfer to Sapporo, the biggest city in Hokkaido. After check in the hotel, visit Sapporo beer museum, the famous Ishiya Chocolate factory, the Old Government house of Hokkaido and Odori Park (where the yearly Snow Festival is held every year in February).

After breakfast and check out, visit the Central Fish Market in Sapporo where you can taste the seafood products of Hokkaido. Takikawa is the one you should consider to stop because of beautiful canola flowers in May. I Asahikawa Asahiyama park is famous for SAKURA, full-bloomed maybe in mid-May.

Go to Tulip Park in Kamiyubetsu and enjoy to see Pink Moss in Takinoue. Both two locations are fantastic, must be the highlight of this spring trip. It takes almost whole day from Asahikawa city.

Drive to Furano – a popular place for flower viewing starting from May. Pass by Biei, known for the beautiful scenery and blue pond. Stopover at the ice cream factory to taste their delicious lavender ice cream and visit famous farm Tomita even if it is not lavender season. After Furano taking a express way to Otaru.
Overnight in Otaru

In Otaru, visit Canal, Kitaichi Glass factory as well as the Musical Box factory in the morning. Then proceed to Noboribetsu. Have a quick stop at one of the fruits garden in Yoichi and pass by Mt. Yotei (Mt. Fuji of Hokkaido). After long drive arrive at Noboribetsu – one of the greatest Onsen town in Japan.

Check out after breakfast and visit Hell Valley, where all the hot springs resorts in this area depend on for it’s sulphurous water supply to their pubic baths. Then head to New Chitose airport. It takes almost one hour. And spend some time to do your last minute shopping in the airport or factory outlet mall near the airport.
